Accessibility in Polybase
Everyone on your team should be able to chat, meet, plan and write in Polybase in the way that works for them. Here is what Polybase offers today, and how to reach us when something gets in your way.
Work from the keyboard
Get around Polybase without reaching for the mouse.
- Press Cmd/Ctrl + K anywhere to open search.
- Run your inbox from the keyboard: j and k to move, e to archive, r to reply, c to write a new message. Press ? to see every shortcut.
- Spreadsheets and presentations each have their own shortcut reference built in.
- Change some shortcuts to suit you in Settings → Keyboard shortcuts.
See it your way
Choose the look that is easiest on your eyes.
- Light mode, dark mode, or automatic, following your system setting.
- Ten colour themes, including a high-contrast white theme.
- Zoom in with your browser as usual on the web.
- The mobile app follows the text size you set on your device.
Calmer motion
Less movement when you need it.
- If your system asks for reduced motion, Polybase tones down many of its animations – in chat, calls and on the canvas.
- This website does the same.
Captions and language
Follow every conversation, in the language you read best.
- Live captions in video calls, and each person can pick their own translation language.
- Subtitles for call recordings, including translated subtitles.
- Polybase is available in English, German and Turkish, and messages and captions can be translated into 12 languages.
- Captions need a transcription provider, which your workspace admin connects once.
Voice and hands-free control
Type less, or not at all.
- Dictate messages, task comments and documents instead of typing them (in the browser).
- Gaze Mode (beta): move the pointer with your head and click with your eyes – blink, hold or dwell.
- Mime Mode (beta): control Polybase with hand gestures in front of your camera.
- Your workspace admin turns on the beta modes.
Accessible content
Help others take part in what you share.
- Add alternative text to images in presentations. Polybase keeps it when you import from or export to PowerPoint.
Questions
Can I use Polybase with a screen reader?
Most controls in Polybase carry labels for screen readers, and status changes are announced. We have not yet tested every area systematically with screen readers. If something does not work for you, please tell us – those reports go to the top of our list.
Does Polybase meet a standard such as WCAG?
Not formally yet. We have not had Polybase audited against WCAG 2.1, so we do not claim conformance. We are closing the gaps we know about step by step, and your reports help us decide what comes first.
