Polybase vs Airtable

Airtable is a standalone database. Polybase Tables put the same structured power inside the workspace where your team already chats, plans and meets.

Airtable is a US company on US-jurisdiction cloud with no self-host option — the CLOUD Act applies. Polybase gives you EU cloud, your own VPC, or air-gapped self-host, with the keys in your hands.

POLYBASE

One workspace. Every surface.

Polybase Tables give every channel an Airtable-style database — typed columns, formulas, lookups, linked records, forms and CSV import — living right next to the chat, tasks, documents and calls the data is about. Flows automate what happens when a row changes, and discussing a record means posting in the channel, not pasting a link into another app.

Unified · Extensible · Yours
AIRTABLE

Powerful. But alone.

Airtable is a polished relational database with rich field types, views, automations and a large template ecosystem. As a pure database it runs deep — but it is only the database. Conversations about the data happen in Slack, files sit in Drive, meetings run on Zoom. Every record link pasted into another tool is context walking out of the building.

Moving from Airtable.

A practical sequence for planning the change, moving the useful material and introducing the new workspace.

5 steps
  1. 01

    Export Your Airtable Bases

Use Airtable's CSV export per table to download your records, fields and choices. This is the raw material for rebuilding your bases as Polybase Tables.

  2. 02

    Map Bases to Channels

Each Airtable base usually belongs to a team or project — map it to the matching Polybase channel. The channel gives the table a home next to the conversations, tasks and files about the same work.

  3. 03

    Import CSV and Rebuild Structure

Import your CSVs into Polybase Tables, then set column types, formulas, lookups and linked records. Single-select choices and colors carry over as select columns.

  4. 04

    Recreate Forms and Automations

Rebuild Airtable forms with the Polybase form builder — forms attach to tables and can be shared for intake. Airtable Automations map to Flows: triggers on rows, messages or schedules, with conditions and actions.

  5. 05

    Move the Conversation In

Stop pasting record links into Slack. In Polybase the discussion happens in the channel that owns the table — decisions, records and follow-up tasks stay in one context.

Why Polybase

What Polybase includes.

The additional workspace capabilities to consider when comparing Polybase with Airtable.

01

A Database Next to the Work

Airtable is a destination you leave your workspace to visit. Polybase Tables live inside channels — the same place your team chats, assigns tasks and holds calls about that data.

02

Talk Where the Data Lives

In Airtable, discussing a record means copying a link into Slack or email. In Polybase, the channel around the table is the discussion — every decision stays attached to its context.

03

Flows Without Per-Run Anxiety

Airtable meters automations by plan. Polybase Flows are part of the platform — triggers on rows, messages and schedules, with conditions and actions, on infrastructure you can run yourself.

04

Your Records, Your Servers

Airtable is US cloud only. Polybase runs on our EU cloud, in your VPC or fully air-gapped — with your encryption keys, which matters when tables hold customer or HR data.

05

One Subscription, Not Four

Airtable + Slack + Zoom + Drive is four subscriptions and four data boundaries. Polybase replaces the stack — databases, chat, calls and documents under one roof and one invoice.

06

AI That Sees the Whole Context

Polybase's AI assistant works across your tables, conversations and documents together — because they share one context, not three separate silos.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Common questions about switching from Airtable to Polybase.

01Does Polybase Tables match Airtable feature-for-feature?
No — as a pure database, Airtable runs deeper: more field types, interface designer, a large template gallery. Polybase covers the working core — typed columns, formulas, lookups, linked records, forms, CSV import and multiple views — and adds what Airtable can't: the chat, tasks, calls and documents around the data, plus self-hosting. If your team uses Airtable as a lightweight relational database rather than an app platform, Polybase replaces it comfortably.
02Can I import my existing Airtable bases?
Yes, via CSV export and import. Records and select choices carry over directly; formulas, lookups and linked records are rebuilt in the Polybase column editor. Plan roughly an afternoon per serious base.
03We use Airtable Interfaces as internal apps. What's the Polybase equivalent?
For structured intake, Polybase forms attach to tables and can be shared beyond the channel. For richer internal apps, Polybase's block-based pages are evolving quickly — but if you've built complex Interface apps, evaluate that workflow during a demo before committing to a switch.
