FigJam runs on Figma's US cloud under US jurisdiction — the CLOUD Act applies, and Figma does not offer a self-hosted option today. Polybase gives you EU cloud, your own VPC, or air-gapped self-host.

POLYBASE

Ein Workspace. Jede Oberfläche.

Polybase's interactive boards are whiteboards inside your workspace channels — next to the chat, tasks, calls and documents of the same project. Sketch on the board with live cursors, discuss it in the channel thread, start a call without leaving, and convert sticky notes into tracked Kanban tasks with one click. The board is part of the work, not a separate app.

FIGJAM

Leistungsstark. Aber allein.

FigJam is Figma's whiteboard — fast, friendly and genuinely fun, with a huge template and widget community, FigJam AI, and a brilliant tie-in to Figma design files. If your designers live in Figma, FigJam is a natural extension. But it is a separate app from where work is discussed and tracked, and it runs on Figma's cloud with no self-hosted option today: outcomes typically still get carried by hand into your chat and task tools.

Migration

Wechsel von FigJam.

Eine praktische Reihenfolge, um den Wechsel zu planen, nützliche Inhalte zu übertragen und den neuen Workspace einzuführen.

5 steps
  1. 01

    Audit Your FigJam Files

List the FigJam files your team actually returns to — living planning boards, recurring retro templates, active brainstorms. Most workspaces carry many one-off jam files that can simply be archived. Migrate the living content, not the graveyard.

  2. 02

Create Polybase Channels for Each Team or Project

Set up channels for the teams that run workshops, retros and planning sessions. Each channel comes with boards, chat, tasks, calls and docs — so the whiteboard lands next to the conversation instead of in a separate app.

  3. 03

    Recreate Active Boards in Polybase

Rebuild your active FigJam boards in Polybase using sticky notes, shapes, connectors and templates. Diagrams you keep in draw.io format can be imported directly. Recreating is also a natural moment to prune stale content.

  4. 04

Turn Sticky Notes into Tracked Work

This is the step FigJam typically hands off to widgets: convert board elements into Kanban tasks with assignees and due dates, in the same channel. Workshop outcomes become tracked work without a Jira widget or manual copying.

  5. 05

Keep Figma for Design, Move Team Collaboration to Polybase

Your designers can keep designing in Figma. What moves to Polybase is the team layer: brainstorming, planning, retros — plus the chat, tasks and docs around them. One workspace for the whole team, with your deployment model of choice.

Why Polybase

Was Polybase umfasst.

Zusätzliche Workspace-Funktionen, die Sie beim Vergleich von Polybase und FigJam berücksichtigen können.

01

Sticky Note → Task in One Click

In FigJam, action items leave the board through a Jira or Asana widget — or through someone's copy-paste. In Polybase, any board element becomes a tracked Kanban task with an assignee and due date, in the same workspace, with one click.

02

Boards Where the Conversation Is

FigJam is a separate app you send links to; discussion happens in cursor chat and canvas comments, apart from your team's daily channels. Polybase boards live inside channels — the workshop, the follow-up discussion and the decisions share one thread.

03

Real Video Calls While You Draw

FigJam offers audio chat on the board; video typically means a parallel Zoom or Teams call. In Polybase, the board sits in a channel where you can start a WebRTC video call with screen share — and keep drawing together with the call in a floating window.

04

Your Cloud, Your VPC, or Fully Offline

FigJam runs as SaaS on Figma's cloud, under US jurisdiction, with no self-hosted option today. Polybase runs in our EU-region cloud, in your own VPC, or fully air-gapped on your servers via Docker Compose — your servers, your keys.

05

A Workspace for the Whole Team

FigJam shines for designers who already live in Figma. Polybase is built for everyone else too: boards sit next to chat, tasks, docs, calls and calendar, so engineering, product and operations work in the same place as the whiteboard.

Häufige Fragen

Häufige Fragen

Fragen zum Wechsel von FigJam zu Polybase.

01Is Polybase's whiteboard as polished as FigJam?
FigJam is genuinely excellent at being a whiteboard — the template and widget community is vast, FigJam AI generates and organizes content, and the Figma design-file tie-in is unmatched. Polybase's boards cover the core team use cases — brainstorming, retros, planning, diagramming with connectors, draw.io import, version history — with the structural advantage of living next to your chat, tasks and docs. If your main need is design-sprint tooling deep inside the Figma ecosystem, FigJam keeps that edge. If your need is whiteboarding as part of everyday teamwork, the integration wins.
02Can I import FigJam files into Polybase?
There is no direct FigJam importer. Polybase boards can import draw.io diagrams, and for FigJam content we recommend recreating your active boards — most teams find only a handful of files are truly alive, and rebuilding them is a chance to connect elements to the task workflow. We help with migration during onboarding.
03Do my designers have to stop using Figma?
No — and they shouldn't. Figma remains the right tool for interface design, and teams typically keep it alongside Polybase. What Polybase replaces is the team-collaboration layer: the whiteboard sessions, the planning, and the chat, task and document tools around them. Designers keep Figma; the team stops needing FigJam plus a separate chat and task stack.
04FigJam has FigJam AI — what does Polybase offer?
Polybase ships an AI assistant that works across the workspace — tasks, docs, search and boards — with per-user memory and a daily brief. Crucially, it's bring-your-own-model: Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint including self-hosted Ollama/LocalAI. Your content is not used to train foundation models, and in a self-hosted deployment the model can run on your own hardware too.
05Where does my whiteboard data live with Polybase?
Wherever you decide. Polybase offers three deployment models: our EU-region cloud, your own private cloud or VPC via Docker, or fully air-gapped self-host via Docker Compose. Boards, chat, tasks and files all live in that single-tenant instance. FigJam does not offer a self-host option today — boards live in Figma's cloud.
